To be beautiful means to be yourself. You don’t need to be accepted by others. You need to accept yourself. When you are born a lotus flower, be a beautiful lotus flower, don’t try to be a magnolia flower. If you crave acceptance and recognition and try to change yourself to fit what other people want you to be, you will suffer all your life. True happiness and true power lie in understanding yourself, accepting yourself, having confidence in yourself.

Le Rocher by Simon Laveuve
How I love a good miniature sculpture! Simon Laveuve’s contain chaotic and ramshackle worlds of flotsam and jetsam that work together in perfect harmony.
In his piece called “Le Rocher,” which translates to “The Rock,” Laveuve explores notions of time.
“The rock is a survivor. Cataclysm, tsunami, storm. He was there. He saw everything, heard everything. When land and sea give birth to a new world, the rock, against wind and tide, will be there. It’s at the end that everything begins (again).”

“Simple pleasures are the last healthy refuge in a complex world.”
~ Oscar Wilde
Anton Chekhov’s stories are intricately bound up in memory

Chekhov’s stories incorporate extremely precise, well-observed details that come from everyday life — the way a farm smells of hay, warm manure, and steaming milk in June; that moment of transformation when a singer goes to the top of her range and sounds more birdlike than human; the violet glow of the sea at sunset in the Crimea. These details are not bits of journalistic color, nor are they mere word-count padding (Chekhov got his start by cranking out comic stories and gags for newspapers that paid by the word). These details were elements of the world that bound his characters in time and place and from which they could not escape.
It was memory itself, with its power to endow a life, no matter how humble, with meaning and, on occasion, states of pure bliss. In his plays and short stories, memory becomes more than a noun. It is a verb, an action fleeting and ephemeral, that makes sense of the otherwise random and senseless lives people lead.

Non-smoking Lady Bug shares the immortal and timeless ‘Wild Geese’ by Mary Oliver
You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting –
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

AA78 by Zdzislaw Beksinski (1978)
Zdzisław Beksiński, the Polish painter, photographer, and sculptor with a reputation for dystopian surrealism and nightmarish artworks. Beksiński’s life was marked by personal tragedies like the death of his wife and son, as well as his own tragic end. However throughout his life, Beksiński himself resisted such interpretations, preferring to let his art speak for itself and was remembered as a mild-mannered and content person. He was born in Nazi-occupied Poland, the horrors of the era left an indelible mark on his work. This often features emaciated figures and the psychological shadows of war. This artwork below is less menacing and a bit more enchanting which is why I like it.

Really enjoyed this roundup of interesting things out there. I love good miniature sculptures. They always look so effortless. The more I look at Simon Laveuve’s work there, the more I see something else. Not to mention this sculpture has a fair bit of colour, and thinking of what emotions and meanings colour evokes adds another layer to what he created. For instance, the bottom of the sculpture is green which is a colour symbolic of growth. And this ties in quite nicely with how he describes rocks as always there, watching the world change through cycles and growth.
The bird beak infographic is so informative. So many different beaks, each one suited for catching or picking up particular foods! It seems the birds around water have longer beaks, which makes sense as fish for example are larger things to pick up.
I like reading Reddit. There’s just so many opinions on there, some so opinionated, some you really have to take with a pinch of salt, and some things really just so funny. Anything and everything about anything really. The kinds of stories you read on there. Agree with what you found there, ‘You are under no obligation to engage with anyone you don’t want to converse with’. I normally am pretty straight up with people like this if I’m not up for talking or engaging with them. Maybe I’m tired, maybe my mind is buzzing with an idea I want to entertain, maybe the other person seems someone I should avoid – I will not engage, even if it means coming across rude!

I loved your analysis of that sculpture Mabel. Yes I agree the colours evoke unique symbolism and deeper meaning, it makes it so hypnotising! Thanks once again for your detailed thoughts and reflections on my work it really means a lot to me that you take the time. The bird beak infographic is beautiful yes 😍 they are evolution’s wonderful evidence right there and remind me of the kinds of implements we humans use to shovel different things hehe.
About Reddit, yeah me too, I love it! Sometimes it can be so funny and people on there can be so witty sarcastic and funny I find this especially the case with the Melbourne reddit, which can be a good laugh sometimes.
I am glad the phrase about avoiding people you don’t like resonates. Yeah it can get so tiring to put up with people like that. As I get older I find I have a much lower tolerance for bullshit from people. Maybe I have become a Karen? Hahaha 😆 😂 maybe that’s what it means to be a Karen, even though that’s a pejorative term it describes a woman who has grown comfortable with saying no to people and being ok with that? Just don’t want to be a selfish self-entitled kind of person as a Karen is known for, I try to not be that person. 😅
Thanks again dear Mabel for the comment, sorry it was so long delayed, from Athena / CC

Glad you like Reddit too. It can be really funny on there. Sometimes it’s like seeing ordinary, everyday people take it out on each other. It can get quite feral there lol 😄 When I’m Googling something, I also check it out in Reddit…chances are someone has got something to say about what I’m interested in.
No means no! I guess it’s alright when you draw your boundaries, mean no harm an don’t take it out on others. What other people think of you is not your problem at all 😄 It’s a pleasure to come by. Take care ❤
