I am taking a break from social media and WordPress

Hello friends

I’ve been feeling rather down and directionless lately. After watching The Social Dilemma on Netflix, I concluded that being on social constantly probably isn’t helping my mental health.

I will be available on email for all those who I regularly chat to on here and if you want to reach me send an email to Tokyoalleyways at protonmail dot com

Over November I have a goal to complete 50,000 words of a novel using #Nanowrimo

I’ve made countless attempts to write about my early life but I always stop.

This is because it was a hard time for me. Although countless writers advise to pilfer from one’s early life for writing material. I find it rather demotivating to focus on bad things that have happened to me in the past. Yes it’s powerful stuff, but it is emotionally taxing to write, so instead…I’m going to strive to write something uplifting, something beautiful and something you will all get the warm fuzzies from in your tummy, much like this blog.

I’m not even sure what the 50,000 words will end up being, I just know that I will love the entire process of writing it and that’s what it’s all about.

In the meantime you will get posts on here every few days from me, but they are automated I may not comment or reply to you straight away because I will be busy writing. Once I’ve finished the 50,000 words I will respond to your comments and also catch up on everything that you have been up to on your blogs. Take care my lovely friends ❀

  2. I am doing digital detox, too! That’s a good thing πŸ™‚ So looking forward to reading your novel!!! All the very best!!! I’m sure the process will be liberating πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you so much Eishi. It has been liberating and definitely frees up a lot of time and energy for creativity. I hope your digital detox is going well too. I got your answers thank you, it’s going to be very interesting story! Have a good weekend πŸ™‚

      1. Glad to hear that your digital break is going well! I sometimes go completely “unplugged”, but it doesn’t last too long because I miss my online friends too much! Thank you again for your interview πŸ™‚ Have a fantastic week!!!

      2. Thank you my friend yeah I have missed all of my friends online, yourself included but the detox has served me well I am up to 28,000 words of the 50,000 target for the month and so hopefully I get to the stage of finishing it. It has been an amazing experience to do this. I am looking forward to doing your interview mock-up for you, then I will email it back to you. Sorry that it is taking a bit longer to get it back to you. Hope you and your whānau are feeling better now. Hugs and have a fantastic week too πŸ™‚

  3. Yeah, I too, feel like I might benefit from a digital detox. I’d love to hear about your experience, or any before-and-afters you may have after this jaunt. Wishing you all the best with your mental health!

    1. Hi Stuart thanks so much for reading and your comment. I have been enjoying the detox and it seems to have paradoxically given me enormous amounts of time suddenly. A week seems to have a lasted a lot longer, it’s incredible how using social media messes with your sense of time and you do indeed waste it! I will let you know more about how the writing goes and all that when I have finished. It’s great to have connected on here! Nice to ‘meet’ you!

  4. I think that is a good idea. Social media can be very toxic and bad for people’s mental well-being so I think it’s good to step away from it every once in a while. Take care!

    1. Thank you Jason, yes it seems that negativity is all around on Twitter, it’s designed to get people to become angry or any other bad emotion…which is exhausting. It takes a lot of filtering to filter out all of that on Twitter, but yeah much better to have a break from it. Hope you are having a great weekend, take care πŸ™‚

  5. Super interested to hear how this goes! cutting the socials just seems the one of the best things anyone could do…and shifting your wordpress time into writing makes complete sense as well. Looking forward to an update

    1. Thanks Jeremy yes it’s been a week so far and 20,000 words into the first draft of the 50,000 word novel. It is strange that while taking a break from WordPress and social suddenly you have more time in each day, it affects your perception of time in a good way! Thank you as always for your support Jeremy πŸ™‚

      1. Thank you so much for the encouragement Jeremy that means a lot and did help me, now I am at 27,000 words and will keep going πŸ™‚

  6. Take care of yourself. I have been limiting my social media presence as it definitely doesn’t do me any favours mentally. I hope you’ll achieve what you’ve set out to achieve. But if you don’t, don’t beat yourself over that. Sometimes we all simply need to on own own and not necessarily “doing” something. Hugs. Till the next email x

    1. Yeah that’s so true Gosia, sometimes just being rather than doing is really nice too. I have felt like I’ve won back enormous amounts of time this week, and achieved a lot 20,000 words written already on the first draft and need to get to 50,000 by the end of the month. I hope your digital detox is going well too. I am looking for a beautiful frame for the prints you send me from Two Sisters…one print is going to my sister who is battling her own mental health issues and one will remain proudly on the wall in my place, these are so beautiful and I will love them forever…thank you my friend ❀ Keep smiling xxx

    1. Thank you so much Diana πŸ’“ so far so good I’ve written like a demon in the past week. Take care of yourself too my friend…big hugs xxx

  10. Good luck with that Catnip. Digital detox isn’t easy. Just to say that you are a fluent, beautiful writer, who has expanded my literary and musical worlds. For which, big thanks. πŸ™‚πŸ™‚πŸ™‚

    1. Sorry Kev…for some reason this comment didn’t get to me and went to spam…silly WordPress! Thanks so much for your well wishes for the writing that means so much to me, especially coming from a gifted and amazing writer such as you! I am so glad we connected on here and I have found your posts equally as enriching and enjoyable too. This encourages me to do more music posts as I know you love these. Nanowrimo or National November Writing Month doing well so far 32,000 words in 3 weeks, and hoping to get to 50,000 by the end of the month. Take care πŸ™‚
