Kissing in the dark: The non-corney Valentine’s playlist

The 'Kissing in the dark' Valentine's playlist

So today’s Valentine’s Day and I have compiled a playlist of ‘Kissing in the Dark’ songs. Or in other words, songs with a sexy, dark edge for them for people who enjoy reflecting on their romantic encounters with music, but without the corney ‘Take my breathe away’ by Berlin type cringe that goes along with that. Who knows though, perhaps some of you may cringe at my selections, who knows? Shout out to my friend William who inspired this post and has an amazing blog about indie music, Australian music and old music which always gives inspiration and invites you to discover bands you may otherwise never have heard of!

There’s a bit of house, disco, chill-out, jazz, rock, funk…all of it is pretty amazing in my opinion, but feel free to let me know what you think. Full playlist here

  1. Rose Rouge: first heard at a boring family barbeque. Had to buy the CD next day. Can recall being in a Glastonbury shop, holding my young daughter when Enigma came pouring through the speakers. Mind-blowing and magnificent. Lots of other gems on your list. It was great to listen to them all, Moloko especially, so big thanks 🙂🙂

    1. Yeah…I really loved Enigma as well, funny that it seems the first time you heard it you remember very clearly, it must have really made an impression on you then! It’s that kind of music yes. It was my parents who got me into Engima…you know? and as a child I had this idea that the music was really mystical, spiritual and deeply meaningful and that feeling as stayed with me as an adult.

Moloko and St Germaine….also very potent music filled with memories, I hope that you made some nicer memories with St Germaine in the background, compared to the boring family BBQ where you first heard it!
