Wellington is unusual and amazing in that you can walk along the beach for 10 km and go from being in the middle of the city to being in a really remote and wind-swept marine sanctuary. There aren’t many other places in the world you can do that. Here’s a vlog of that walk.

Well-done! I drove around to the Putangirua Pinnacles a few years back – and could see a big school of dolphin out in the water. In Wanaka, all you have to do is walk thirty minutes past the crowds all queuing to photograph “that Wanaka tree”, and you are suddenly alone in the the most spectacular country. None of the tourists seem to get it….
I had to google ‘that Wanaka Tree’ to know what you mean and by gosh what a dissapointment. A small and gnarled little tree in the water that looks very uninspiring. I guess if it was a picture of a sheep’s butthole that everyone was photographing, even more people would come to photograph it, because its famous LOL.
I guess some people have the ability, creativity and imagination to find inspiring things all over the place and off the beaten track, and some others need to be hand-held to find these hot-spots. I feel really sorry for these people who lack imagination!
